According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the story began in 2015 when Abou El-Ala was sentenced to five years in prison in Egypt for his involvement in terrorist cells linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. These groups specialized in manufacturing bombs, sabotaging power towers, and monitoring public figures to target them. However, he managed to escape, beginning a journey that took him through Sudan, Malaysia, and eventually Turkey.
After disputes with Brotherhood leaders in Istanbul, Abou El-Ala traveled to the UK in April 2023, where he applied for asylum. During the seventeen months it took British authorities to process his application, he committed a new crime: the sexual assault of a woman in London’s Hyde Park.
He has since been convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison, adding a new chapter to a criminal record that the Muslim Brotherhood has publicly disowned.
