A fire at a power plant in northeastern Iran knocks it out of service


The power station in the city of Nishapur in the Khorasan-e Razavi province, northeast Iran, has been out of service due to a severe fire, the cause of which is not yet clear.

Local Iranian news websites said that “a huge fire broke out at the power station in the city of Nishapur which stopped it and stopped it.”

“The fire broke out due to technical problems at a substation producing about 400 kilovolts at the main Nishapur power plant,” the news sites said, adding that the fire reached the main station and knocked it out of service.

“The fire did not cause any human injuries,” the sites quoted workers at the Nishapur power station as saying. “The competent authorities are working to contain and extinguish the fire and restore the power station to service in the coming hours.”

“The cause of the fire is not clear yet, because the incident is under investigation,” Iranian news website Mechhed News quoted an unidentified official at the Nishapur power plant as saying.

Nishapur, located west of the city of Mechhed, capital of Khorasan-e Razavi Province, has a population of approximately 420 thousand.
