A Parental Meeting Turns Into a “Massacre” in Egypt
The city of “Kafr El-Dawwar” in the Egyptian province of Beheira witnessed a tragic incident where a parental meeting with a daughter turned into a massacre, resulting in one death and two injuries.
Initial investigations revealed that a divorced man went to the “Teachers’ Club” to see his daughter, as specified by law, but he planned to abduct the child with the help of his sister.
It turned out that the sister’s role was to smuggle the child while he provoked a fight with his ex-wife, the child’s custodian, to distract her attention and make his sister’s task easier. However, the mother noticed and started screaming for help to attract the attention of passersby.
Upon hearing her screams, one of them rushed to her aid, but the father of the child wasted no time pulling out a firearm he kept in his car and shot the person who came to help, killing him on the spot.
The incident did not stop there; the mother was shot near the lung, and one of the children present at the scene was shot in the leg.
The suspect and his sister fled, but the efforts of the security forces succeeded in apprehending and bringing them in. The public prosecutor’s office decided to detain them pending further investigation.
The law on “child visitation” raises many issues in Egypt for divorced couples who have not reached an amicable agreement regarding the father’s right to see his children.
Fathers complain that the law is unfair to them and does not consider the requirements of fatherhood, as the maximum duration of visitation does not exceed once a week in a public place such as youth centers and clubs for two hours or more depending on the court’s ruling.
On the other hand, custodial mothers assert that they do not trust the other party and their intentions, and therefore cannot leave their children with them for longer than the time set by the court.
