A Revolution in the Cure of Obesity… A New American Drug That Has Magic Effect
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday approved the use of a new drug to treat obesity after it was proven effective in clinical trials.
The British newspaper, Daily Mail, reported on Saturday that Wegovy medicine will be given to those who want to lose weight, explaining that the drug is a compound copy of the intestinal hormone, which limits appetite.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the drug would be injected under the skin every week, and the drug itself is being used to treat type II diabetes.
Experts say the drug’s effectiveness depends on a healthy diet and continued exercise, with more than 100 million Americans overweight.
Obesity is defined as a risk factor for chronic health conditions, including type II diabetes, strokes, heart attacks and even certain cancers.
A study conducted to examine the effectiveness of treatment found that people who received treatment lost about 15% of their weight, equivalent to 34 pounds, over 16 months, while another group that received placebo lost about 2.5% of their weight, according to Sky News.
Harold Baez, medical director of the Louisville Center for Metabolic Research and Atherosclerosis, said that current medications may help lose between 5- 10% of the weight, and sometimes not.
