After Kais Saied’s warnings.. Security Leaders Toppled in Tunisia

The Tunisian authorities have decided to dismiss the Director General of the Border Guards and a number of security commanders in the Zarzis region of the Tunisian governorate of Medenine.

This came in a statement issued by the Tunisian Ministry of Interior following the visit yesterday evening, Tuesday, by the President of the country, Kais Saied, to the General Directorate of the National Guard in Al Awinah.

During the visit, President Kais Saied said that the Zarzis incident was an “intentional drowning and assassination, which once again claimed the lives of the miserable and the poor.” This is confirmed by many clues that almost amount to evidence, as he described it, in reference to the Brotherhood’s hands.

He stressed the need to confront those who “conspired against the state in the past years, and are still conspiring against it to this day”, considering that the people “are tired of the lengthy procedures”.

Kais Saied added: “The boat that was thrown out by the sea was punctured and was carrying resin (…) and whoever masterminded the operation is the one who drowned them, and whoever is behind the incident must be prosecuted on charges of planned assassination”.

On September 21, contact with an irregular immigration boat was lost in the Mediterranean, which was carrying 18 young people from the original coastal city and immigrants from Saharan Africa.

Zarzis (southeast) represents the departure of most irregular migration boats towards the Italian island of Lampedusa.

The total number of people missing in the Mediterranean in 2022 was 544, according to figures from the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights.

Also on Tuesday, Tunisia announced that it was extending the state of emergency in the country until December 31, 2023.

In late 2015, Tunisia declared a state of emergency following a terrorist incident, and has since been extended several times with varying periods.
