Al-Kadhimi: Dialog the only solution to end Iraq’s crises
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said Thursday that the country faces a real political problem in the post-election era.
In press statements, he added: “We are now in the eighth month of 2022 and there is no budget,” he said. “Dialog is the only solution to end the crises in the country.”
“The political blocs must cooperate with the government to find a solution for the budget,” he said.
Al-Kadhimi also said, “We are ready to hand over power to any elected government.”
“Our initiative to find a solution to the crisis in the country was well received by most political blocs,” he said.
Yesterday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada Al-Sadr, called on the Iraqi judiciary to dissolve the Council of Representatives (parliament) within a period not to exceed the end of next week.
“I call on the head of the Supreme Judicial Council to correct the course after the deadline for choosing the president of the republic and the ministers has expired,” he said.
A week ago, Sadr movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr called for early elections after dissolving the current Iraqi parliament.
Al-Sadr is leading a protest movement described as “reformist”, which started on July 27th after his supporters stormed the presidential area in Baghdad, and later announced the start of an open sit-in in response to the nomination of the pro-Iranian Coordinating Framework Forces, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, for the prime minister.
Al-Sadr later called for dissolving the current parliament and proceeding with early legislative elections with constitutional mechanisms that prevent the return of consensus and quotas in the formation of future governments in Iraq.
