Apple – Face ID no longer works for some iOS 16.1 users
iOS 16.1 arrived a few days ago in the final version, with its share of new features. But as often, it’s also an opportunity to discover bugs that don’t seem to have been solved with previous betas. This is reported by Internet users who can no longer unlock their iPhone with Face ID, several models being affected. Not very practical, given that this method is generally requested several dozen times a day.
Among the mobiles affected, we find iPhone X and iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, there is no indication that tablets equipped with face recognition are also victims of this incident, which seems to remain confined to a minority of devices. It’s hard to know if Apple is aware, but a message has already been posted on its support forums, which could help warn its technicians.
Clues in the Apple Store
Victims of this problem do not report no alternative unanimous. One of them, however, explains that he went to the Apple Store to try to obtain an explanation or a repair. An employee of the firm at the apple would then have assured him that it is in fact a technical error, which therefore potentially does not concern the software. Surprising, since most bug reports report that it is precisely since the update to iOS 16.1 that Face ID no longer works correctly.
According to the first reports, restarting the iPhone is not enough to debug it. Ditto for those who have tried to deactivate and then re-configure Face ID from A to Z, as after the first ignition of the smartphone. This is not the first time that the biometric scanner is acting up: already with the iPhone 13 a few months earlier, owners complained that they could not change their screen without “breaking” the system.
How to get help?
To try to unlock Face ID if the technology is no longer running at home either, you can go through the app Apple Support (below) available on the App Store. Otherwise, there is a web version accessible everywhere. You can then make an appointment at the Apple Store if Cupertino suggests this is the best solution. Before the big day, don’t forget to take a full backup of your iPhone contents, just in case.
