Arterial stiffness in young people: A study reveals causes and risks

A recent study has shown that moderate increases in blood pressure and cholesterol levels have a greater impact on the development of arterial stiffness.

The impact is more significant in individuals aged 40 compared to those over the age of 48.

Arterial stiffness: causes and symptoms. The study indicated that early intervention to address risk factors could contribute to slowing down the development of arterial stiffness or even stopping its progression. The results were published on the New Atlas website.

Despite advances in medicine, heart and vascular diseases associated with arterial stiffness remain the leading cause of death.

As arterial stiffness often begins early in life and develops without clear symptoms, detecting the disease in its early stages is crucial to initiating preventive measures in time to delay its progression.

Scientists at the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) conducted a study to identify factors affecting arterial stiffness in middle-aged individuals without clear symptoms. The study included 3,471 participants between the ages of 40 and 55.

The results revealed that moderate increases in blood pressure and cholesterol have a greater impact on the development of arterial stiffness in young people.

Researchers suggest that early intervention in addressing risk factors can help prevent heart and vascular diseases and slow down the progression of arterial stiffness.
