As revenge for its young one… 5 elephants trample a car in Malaysia

A herd of elephants collided with a car on a fast main road, after a villa from the group hit a young elephant, according to local authorities in Malaysia, on Monday.

A 48-year-old man was driving the car with his wife and 23-year-old son, according to a statement from the police in Jerantut, on the Malay Peninsula.

The Jerantut police stated that the weather was rainy and foggy at the time of the incident, and the car was turning left on the highway when it collided with the young elephant.

Zulkifli Mahmood, the chief supervisor of the Jerantut district police, said, ‘The car collided with the young elephant, who was walking on the road with the herd, and upon seeing that, the other five elephants rushed towards the car and started trampling it.’

He added that the herd of elephants left the area after the young elephant that was hit stood up.

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported as a result of the accident.

Available pictures showed significant damage to the front and sides of the car, with its side doors collapsing, and all windows shattered.

Environmental advocates say that due to the rapid development of highways in Malaysia, wild elephants throughout the peninsula have lost large amounts of forest cover, forcing many of them to venture across roads in search of food.

The Jerantut police urged drivers to exercise more caution on highways, where elephant herds regularly roam the area.

They have also placed signs warning drivers of elephant crossings along many highways, especially in the northern part of the country, but accidents still occur.
