Brotherhood Immunity for Criminals and Forged Documents… What is Happening in Taiz, Yemen?

In a scandal that exposes the depth of Brotherhood corruption, the Al-Islah Party — the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood — shields its criminals in Taiz by releasing them under false pretenses and forging documents to help them escape to Europe.

This immunity, which has sparked widespread public outrage, shows how Al-Islah is turning the city into a safe haven for killers, under the guise of a fake security campaign designed to appease the Brotherhood, according to Al-Muntasaf.

The security campaign in Taiz, initially launched to apprehend repeat offenders involved in murder and looting, has become a farce due to Al-Islah’s protection of its operatives. Taiz’s security chief, Mansour Al-Akahli, ordered the release of Arafat Al-Sufi, an officer in the 170th Brigade accused of murder and armed crimes, citing “the absence of formal complaints” against him. This move was widely seen as an attempt to undermine security efforts and silence public anger. The same justification had previously been used by the Brotherhood to release Ghazwan Al-Mikhlafi, who later fled to the Houthi militias after committing numerous crimes.

Activists uncovered an even more alarming crime: the issuance of forged ID cards and passports for killers, enabling them to flee to Europe. Among the falsified identities is that of “Rayan Jamil,” the murderer of the child Amjad Jamil Abdu Asaad, whose name was changed to “Kinan Jamil.”

Human rights advocates have held the Interior Minister fully responsible, demanding an urgent investigation into this grave violation, which they described as no less dangerous than the security chaos devastating Taiz.

This immunity, corruption, and document forgery are fueling growing popular anger, with protests and strikes calling for accountability of the Brotherhood and their expulsion.
