Brotherhood Militias Attack Human Rights Activist’s Home in Taiz

Armed men affiliated with the Taiz Military Command, loyal to the Al-Islah Party, the “Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood,” attacked the home of human rights activist Ahmed Taha Al-Ma’bqi in the city of Taiz.

In a post he shared the day before yesterday, and reported by Al-Omanaa newspaper, Al-Ma’bqi stated, “The Brotherhood militia, under the leadership of Abd al-Basit Abd al-Rahman Mubarak al-Bahar, once again attacked my house a short while ago.”

Al-Ma’bqi held the security authorities in Taiz fully responsible for their blatant complicity with the perpetrators, noting that court-issued arrest warrants had been in place for several months for the perpetrators still evading justice.

The attack instilled fear among Al-Ma’bqi’s household and the neighboring homes in the Al-Darb district, located north of the western end of Jamal Street, especially as it occurred late at night when people were asleep.

Abd al-Basit al-Bahar is the brother of an employee at the Presidential Office. He has previously committed crimes in the province of Aden and is pursued by security forces under compulsory arrest warrants, but he fled to Taiz, where he is protected from prosecution by military leadership.
