Calls to Designate the Islamic Movement Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a Terrorist Organization

The Sudan People’s Movement – Revolutionary Democratic Current, led by Yasir Arman, has accused the Islamic Movement (Muslim Brotherhood) in Sudan of being behind the full-scale war currently ravaging the country. The movement described the conflict as a systematic attempt to assassinate the December Revolution and revive the former regime through violence and ideological terrorism.
In a statement published yesterday on the Al-Rakoba website, marking the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, the movement’s spokesperson, Nizar Youssef, said Sudan is being plunged into a “deliberate” war executed by the Islamic Movement and its armed affiliates. He emphasized that the atrocities committed in this war surpass those of the General Command massacre in terms of civilian destruction and damage to the social fabric.
Youssef linked the current war to the October 25, 2021 coup, asserting that it clearly extends the Islamic Movement’s project to reinstate an authoritarian and repressive state.
He added that the warring parties have lost all legitimacy, as they deliberately target civilians, turn cities into mass graves, block access to food and medicine, persecute activists, burn villages, and carry out identity-based killings — acts that amount to full-fledged war crimes.
The revolutionary current called on international and regional bodies to classify the Islamic Movement, the “Al-Baraa Battalions,” the remnants of the former regime, and the National Congress Party as terrorist organizations.
The statement criticized efforts to form rival governments in Port Sudan and in areas under Rapid Support Forces control, calling them a blatant attempt to bypass the call for ending the war and to legitimize military rule under civilian guise.
Youssef reaffirmed that the Samoud alliance adheres to an independent civilian path, siding with neither party in the conflict. He stressed that the goal is to end the war — not to manage or embellish it — while calling for civilian protection, an end to violations, and the presentation of a comprehensive rescue package to preserve what remains of Sudan and rebuild the state on revolutionary principles.
