Chad denies holding talks with Israel to receive evacuees from Gaza

The Chadian government reaffirms its steadfast position to cease fire and ensure the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination in accordance with international standards

Chad strongly denies allegations of engaging in discussions with Israel with the aim of receiving thousands of Palestinians from Gaza as part of a “voluntary” relocation plan.

This information, circulated by Israeli media, was refuted in a statement released by the Chadian government on Friday through the Ministry of Information on Facebook. This denial comes hours after Hebrew news sites, including “Zman Yisrael,” reported that Tel Aviv was in talks with Chad and Rwanda to accommodate Gazan Palestinians as part of its voluntary relocation plan for the region’s residents.

The statement emphasizes that “Chad once again confirms its unwavering support for peaceful coexistence between the two states (Palestine and Israel), in compliance with international law.”

It adds that the Chadian government “categorically denies the recent allegations broadcast by Channel 24I (Israeli private) claiming that talks between Israel and Chad are taking place with the aim of receiving thousands of Palestinians from Gaza.” “We have always supported our consistent stance to cease fire and ensure the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, according to international standards,” the statement continues.

It further states, “Our commitment to the basic principles of international law prohibits any agreement to relocate people from Gaza or participate in such actions, as it constitutes a violation of these rights.” The statement calls for “responsible dissemination of information” and urges “the media to carefully verify their sources before publishing any information that may cause misunderstanding.”

Earlier on Friday, the Israeli news site “Zman Yisrael” reported that “Mossad officials (intelligence agency) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are negotiating with Rwanda and Chad to accommodate Palestinians choosing to migrate from Gaza.”

The site quoted an unnamed Israeli political source as saying, “The two countries (Chad and Rwanda) expressed their basic agreement to continue the discussion, unlike other countries (not named) that rejected the idea in principle and have not been contacted again,” without providing further details.

Previously, Israeli media had spoken of consultations by the Israeli government with Congo to receive evacuees from Gaza, but Israeli authorities denied this. Israeli ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Finance Minister Tzachi Hanegbi, and Likud party member and Knesset deputy Danny Danon, have in recent weeks called for encouraging voluntary migration of Palestinians from Gaza.

This has drawn criticism from the United States, international community, and Arab nations. Although the Israeli government has not publicly disclosed a plan to relocate Palestinians, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not objected to the idea of voluntary migration. Earlier, Egypt had warned against a plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to the Sinai Peninsula, considering it a threat to its national security.

Since October 7th of last year, the Israeli army has waged a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in 22,600 martyrs and 57,910 injured, mostly children and women, as of Friday. This has caused extensive damage to infrastructure and an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” according to official Palestinian and international sources.
