Concerns of a crisis on the last day of the Gaza ceasefire
Hamas and Israel have expressed concerns regarding the hostage lists and prisoners on the last day of the humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
A reliable source told Reuters that Israel and Hamas have voiced concerns about the lists of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees scheduled for release today.
The source mentioned that regional mediators are working to resolve issues and avoid delays.
Hamas is expected to release 11 Israeli hostages on Monday, while Israel is set to release 33 Palestinian prisoners.
In the three days since the ceasefire began, Israel has been providing names of Palestinian women and minors to be released, and Hamas has been providing names of Israeli civilians to be released at least 12 hours before completing the process.
On the second day of the ceasefire, Hamas complained about Israel’s alleged non-compliance with the agreed-upon standards for released prisoners.
Hamas stated that it follows the principle of seniority in releasing prisoners from Israeli prisons.
The second day of the ceasefire was on the verge of failure due to the dispute, which also extended to Israel’s refusal to deliver humanitarian aid and fuel to the northern Gaza Strip.
The reasons for Israel’s complaint about the latest list remain unknown.
The ceasefire agreement came into effect last Friday, with Israel receiving 39 hostages, including women and children. Additionally, another Russian was released outside the deal as a gesture of appreciation for Moscow’s stance on the war in Gaza.
On the other side, Palestinians received 117 child and female prisoners from Israeli prisons.
Hamas also released prisoners from foreigners not covered by the exchange deal.
Hopes are still alive for the possibility of extending the humanitarian ceasefire, but the disputes that arose this morning cast shadows over the scene in the region.
Regional mediation by Egypt and Qatar succeeded in overcoming the crisis on the second day after delaying the release of hostages in Gaza until late Saturday.
