Did Drama and Cinema Highlight the Flaws of the Muslim Brotherhood? A Film Critic Responds

Film critic Magda Morris spoke about the role of Egyptian drama and cinema in the downfall of the Muslim Brotherhood‘s rule.

In a press statement to the website (Al-Bawaba), Morris said that Egyptian drama and cinema have contributed to highlighting the flaws of the Brotherhood‘s rule, but not sufficiently. She mentioned, “I can’t recall any dramatic or cinematic works that fully and adequately expose the flaws of the Brotherhood.”

Morris explained, “I haven’t seen a series that presents what a Brotherhood family does in their daily lives and behaviors. When they took power for a full year, they dismissed all state apparatuses and appointed leaders loyal to them.” She pointed out that the series “Al-Ikhtiyar” (The Choice) is an exceptional work compared to everything presented since the June 30 revolution and the developments that followed.

She confirmed that, in general, works have been presented but not to the required extent, as she believes that some of them still exist and have fangs in spreading rumors because they are good at playing on social media.

Morris added, “The scene of the June 30 revolution, unique in Egypt’s history, will not be repeated. Egyptians from all walks of life and various backgrounds stayed in the squares for long hours to oust the Brotherhood‘s rule.”
