Disappointing: 4 Reasons Behind Apple’s AI Struggles

Artificial intelligence has rapidly gained popularity in recent times. However, as is typical with Apple, the company lagged behind in adopting this technology, launching Apple Intelligence in beta last September with extremely basic features.

As the company slowly begins to add more features to deliver on its initial promises, it’s hard not to feel disappointed with how things are progressing.

Here are four reasons why Apple’s artificial intelligence falls short of expectations.

An Irregular Release Schedule

Apple chose a phased release schedule for integrating artificial intelligence into its devices. Instead of making a splash with a host of new features, Apple Intelligence debuted with very limited functionality.

This month brought some additional features, but the rollout feels more like a stumble than an impressive leap forward.

The Genmoji Feature

We all use emojis to varying degrees, and most people have a set of four or five favorite emojis, leaving the rest for special circumstances.

This makes it hard to get excited about features like Genmoji, which allows users to create new emojis using AI but fails to captivate.

Neglecting Siri

One of the first things Apple should have done was to update Siri and make it a truly worthwhile tool.

Currently, Siri continues to struggle with basic tasks, and the more advanced capabilities recently enabled by Apple don’t work particularly well.

Siri remains an afterthought for now. If Apple had fixed Siri when launching Apple Intelligence, it would have been enough to keep users engaged until other features were ready for release. Instead, we got Genmoji and a few ChatGPT-like tools.

Immature Writing Tools

Although perhaps the most useful feature currently included in Apple Intelligence, the writing tools still feel somewhat immature. They are quick and do what is expected, but there are minor issues with text quality—something Apple users aren’t accustomed to.

In conclusion, Apple Intelligence has great potential but hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Instead of pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence, Apple has taken the safe route by integrating ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence. Apple’s promises sound good on paper, but what consumers currently have in their hands is largely disappointing.
