The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday the successful mediation efforts conducted by the UAE between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in the exchange of 180 prisoners of war from both sides.

This successful mediation, the fifth of its kind since the beginning of the year, reflects the friendly and partnership relations that the UAE has with both countries and its role as a trusted mediator for both parties. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to the governments of Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation, which led to the success of the UAE’s efforts.

The ministry emphasized the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support all initiatives aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the two countries. It stressed that “dialogue, de-escalation, and adopting the diplomatic path are the only ways to resolve the crisis and will help alleviate the humanitarian impact resulting from it.”

Fourth Exchange Since the Beginning of the Year

Since the beginning of the year, Emirati mediation efforts have successfully completed four prisoner-of-war exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. In December 2022, they also successfully mediated the exchange of two prisoners between the United States and the Russian Federation.
