Floods in Italy: Pilot Charles Leclerc auctions an outfit to help flood victims
While the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy was hit by heavy flooding, pilot Charles Leclerc decided to support the people of the region with the auction of his Monaco Grand Prix suits. As reported by Var Matin on Thursday, June 1, 2023, Sotheby’s has been commissioned to carry out this operation, the proceeds of which will be returned to the victims. The closing date is June 6, 2023. The package includes a helmet, wetsuit, gloves and boots, donated by the Monegasque pilot. “The highlight is undoubtedly the Bell HP77 protective helmet that was designed by Charles specifically for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix and that was inspired by the one worn by his father, Hervé Leclerc, who became the first in the family to run in the streets of Monte-Carlo,” Sotheby’s, quoted by the daily. “After the recent floods in Emilia-Romagna, I decided to auction my whole race kit for the weekend of the Monaco GP. I hope we can raise as much money as possible for those who really need it in this difficult time,” the pilot said on Twitter.
Thousands displaced
The floods that ravaged the Emilia-Romagna region led to the cancelation of the Imola Grand Prix. The F1 world mobilized to raise funds, in a spirit of solidarity. The money raised from the sale of Charles Leclerc’s outfit will be donated to the mayor of the community, who will then be responsible for distributing the funds to the most affected areas. “The funds will be used, with the coordination of the local authorities, for the benefit of the local populations affected by the floods in recent days, with particular attention to environmental restoration projects and the management of hydrogeological instability,” Ferrari, a builder based in this region in Maranello, said in a statement. As Var Matin complements, some 20,000 people have been displaced due to its flooding. In addition to the extensive damage, 14 people lost their lives.
