German Analyst Reveals: Our Country Fights All Terror Centers and Organizations Affiliated with Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood

The German government has banned the “Islamic Center of Hamburg,” an Islamic association that runs a mosque in this German city and has been under investigation for several months for allegedly supporting the Lebanese Hezbollah and being linked to Iran. Police conducted raids this morning, July 24, on 53 premises affiliated with the center in eight German states.

Reports indicate that the ban on the center is based on substantial evidence obtained during a previous search that targeted 55 buildings in November 2023. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated today, “We have banned the Islamic Center of Hamburg, which promotes an extremist totalitarian Islamist ideology in Germany.”

Accused of Supporting Hezbollah

A central part of the ban is the criminal charge of supporting terrorism: the association is accused of supporting the Hezbollah organization, which is banned in Germany, for example, by recruiting individuals and raising funds.

German internal intelligence revealed on July 16, 2021, documents and evidence confirming that the Islamic Center of Hamburg has “direct links” to the Iranian regime and has been controversial within the country for years.

Fighting Extremist Thought

Hussein Khodr, a member of the secretariat of the German Social Democratic Party, stated that the decision by the Interior Ministry to ban the Iranian Islamic Center in Hamburg aligns with Germany’s approach to imposing strict measures against extremist Islamist groups and its efforts to ensure internal security in Germany.

He added that some religious centers and organizations were behind divisions within German society by promoting the propaganda of groups classified as extremist in Germany, notably Hezbollah, Hamas, and other Islamist organizations, as well as by encouraging anti-Semitism and inciting hatred against Israel.

He affirmed that the decision is part of the aftermath of the Gaza war, which some extremist groups exploited to raise slogans that contradict the German constitution. Although the German government had already taken steps to tighten sanctions on Iran and close some Iranian institutions, such as Iran Air and the Iranian bank, the government did not want to impose further sanctions on Iran due to Germany’s ongoing economic interests and investments hoped for in the event of a potential lifting of sanctions against Iran.

He noted that without a doubt, the Islamic Center of Hamburg is considered an Iranian center in Europe, training students from across Europe and sending many of its students on missionary campaigns within Europe.
