Gulf countries need to be part of any dialogue related on the Iran nuclear agreement
On Tuesday, GCC Secretary General Nayef Falah Mubarak al-Hajraf stated that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries want to be part of any dialogue linked to Iran’s nuclear agreement.
In a statement after the Secretary General’s gathering with ambassadors of the European Union in Riyadh, the secretariat of the GCC, made up of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, indicated that on the Iranian nuclear file, al-Hajraf called for the necessity for the GCC to participate in any negotiations related to the security and stability of the region.
Indeed, Washington and Tehran are in confrontations about reviving nuclear discussions. Moreover, the US President Joe Biden’s administration indicated to Iran its readiness to return to discussions in order to revive the nuclear agreement that the Former President Donald Trump removed from it in 2018.
Furthermore, Biden overturned Trump’s decision that all UN sanctions against Iran had been reestablished, and the State Department reduced severe restrictions on the domestic travel of Iranian diplomats in New York.
Nevertheless, Tehran called for the lift of all Trump-era sanctions on Iran before making any real action for returning to the agreement. Besides, Iran made escalation by imposing officially the restrictions on the site of inspections by the UN’s nuclear watchdog IAEA.
Otheriwse, the GCC SG appealed Iran to stop its intervention in the internal affairs of countries and cease destabilizing security and stability by supporting terrorist groups in the region.
It should note that Gulf countries have been in conflicts with Iran for decades, denouncing Tehran’s elongated history of armament and financially backing its network of proxies, Shia militias around the Middle East, to reinforce its influence in the region.
