Has the hour of war struck? Trump announces another war fleet heading toward Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump said that another American war fleet is now heading toward Iran.
Trump expressed hope that Tehran would reach an agreement with Washington.
In a speech, he stated: “Another great war fleet is sailing beautifully toward Iran right now.”
He added: “I hope they make a deal.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its air forces would conduct maneuvers in the region to “enhance readiness.”
In a statement, CENTCOM said that “the Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) will conduct a multi-day readiness exercise to demonstrate its ability to deploy, distribute, and sustain combat airpower across the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.”
The statement added that “the exercise aims to enhance the ability to deploy assets and personnel, strengthen regional partnerships, and prepare to execute a flexible response throughout the Central Command.”
This comes as the United States seeks to increase pressure on Tehran over its crackdown on protesters.
On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States has “a war fleet” heading toward Iran, but that he hopes he will not have to use it, renewing his warnings to Tehran against killing protesters or resuming its nuclear program.
Trump had repeatedly threatened to intervene if Iran continued killing protesters, but since then, the intensity of demonstrations that swept the country has declined.
The U.S. president said he had been informed that the killings had decreased and that he believes Tehran does not currently intend to carry out executions of prisoners.
