How is the UAE striving to advance in technology and innovation?


According to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the State and Ruler of Dubai, through which he called for the 1000 Emirates 2071, which is a long-term government work program for future generations, and outlined building the Emirates of the future and equipping the UAE for future generations.

To raise productivity in the national economy and strengthen community cohesion, with pioneering artificial intelligence in vital sectors such as economics, sustainability and innovation in the energy sector, AI is expected to contribute an estimated $16 trillion increase to the global economy.

The State is interested in technology and innovation at the grass-roots and official levels; This has pushed them to advanced positions in global rankings.

According to the UN’s Technology and Innovation Report 2023, “Opening Green Windows” – Technological Opportunities for a Low-Carbon World – the UAE advanced 5 places from 42nd to 37th worldwide.

Countries are ranked according to their readiness to use, adopt and apply leading technology, with a focus on innovation that offers environmentally friendly solutions.

28th climate summit in UAE

With COP28, hosted by the UAE this year, the country is making progress on sustainable energy, which in turn is sustaining low thermal emissions and, in turn, changing the climate.

Secretary of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology Sarah Al Amiri said that the report’s results reflect the position of the leading country in the development and adoption of advanced technology, in order to enhance the efficiency of production, reduce emissions, and accelerate energy transformation, in a way that stimulates innovation, adopts advanced technology in industrial systems and solutions, and supports sustainable industrial development.

It coincides with the country hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as well as the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The U.N. report also focused on 17 leading technologies, such as artificial intelligence, green hydrogen and biofuels, and on assessing each nation’s ability to use, apply and develop innovations.

Dr. Iyad Abdul Mohsen, an environmental expert, said the UAE’s prominent role in confronting climate change is driven by the latest technology and using nature as well. He said this highlights the positive climate the UAE is moving in different climate trends this year.

He added that the UAE this year has produced exceptional results and outputs that reflect the UAE’s potential and its position as a world leader in climate action, environmental preservation and a unique way out, and will continue for more than 50 years to come.

He noted that this session in Cup 28 had the slogan “Implementation of commitments”, and that the focus during this period had been on turning the outcomes of the conferences into reality, and that the trend at this session had therefore been towards actual implementation on the ground.
