Discover the 5 reflexes to adopt in case of sore throat to relieve symptoms and soothe pain.

The term “sore throat” denotes an extremely wide range of pains which can be located both in the back of the throat at the level of the tonsils, and in the lower part of the neck. The causes of these sore throats can vary widely, although in the vast majority of cases the sore throat is caused by a viral infection, sometimes a bacterial infection. There are other, less common causes, and a sore throat that persists and remains very severe after 10 days should be referred to the primary care doctor.

Sore throat: you must hydrate!

In case of sore throat it is very important to drink a lot. This helps to hydrate the body (which needs it a lot to fight infection!) but also to soothe the pain by preventing the drying of the throat. Contrary to what one might think, it is better to favor cold drinks because of their anesthetic power, or even a good bowl of ice cream or sorbet.

Easily swallowed foods

With a sore and sore throat, it is better to choose fresh foods that are easy to swallow. It is therefore recommended to consume soups, velvety broths, purees and dairy products

Think about vitamin C!

To strengthen the immune system in case of sore throat, it is recommended to adopt a balanced and varied diet, rich in fruits and vegetables. The emphasis is therefore on citrus fruits, but also kiwis, guavas, green vegetables, strawberries, peppers and foods rich in zinc such as red meat, chocolate or seafood.

Quit smoking

It is no secret that smoking has a negative impact on health. In fact, it is the leading cause of throat cancer. The toxic substances in tobacco are extremely irritating and it is therefore advisable to take a break, if not to stop permanently, in case of sore throat.

Taking inhalations

To relieve and prevent sore throats, there is nothing like inhaling! A few drops of eucalyptus, peppermint or lavender essential oil in a bowl of boiling water help clear the airways and soften the throat.
