Igniting Chaos in Eastern Sudan: What Does the Muslim Brotherhood Aim for in the Near Future?
The Muslim Brotherhood plans to ignite chaos in eastern Sudan
In Sudan, the Muslim Brotherhood seeks to expand the scope of war and involve the eastern region, which is witnessing a simmering conflict between the army and the Islamic movement on one side, and the Rapid Support Forces on the other, by plunging it into conflict through fomenting discord and inciting ethnic tensions.
The Brotherhood‘s Plans
According to local sources, the Islamic movement stands behind large shipments of weapons distributed in the eastern areas, reflecting the aspirations of the former regime and its attempt to involve the region in the war by mobilizing and arming the tribes there.
They emphasized that the Brotherhood exploited the fact that the border triangle between (Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia) is historically a center for illicit arms trade due to the activity of non-Sudanese armed groups, indicating that they will deploy these gangs to ignite tensions in the eastern regions, as revealed by a report from Roaya News network.
Sudanese Warning
Former member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and member of the Political Body of the Federal Gathering, Mohamed El Faki Suliman, warned of an imminent plan by the Muslim Brotherhood to detonate eastern Sudan.
He added that preparations were being made to cause disturbances in the east of the country, based on the words of a former director of the security apparatus who worked in Kassala state, affiliated with the Islamic movement and considered part of the remnants of the former regime, and who is fully aware of the seriousness of this discourse and its implications, making his words highly credible”.
Mohamed El Faki Suliman sent a message to the components of eastern Sudan, saying: “Do not become fuel for these carefully drawn troubles to drag the region into war, after God has protected it and made it a haven for all the sons of Sudan, and let us all unite for peace to reign in every corner of our beloved country.”
Recruitment Operations
In this regard, Dr. Osman El Mirghani, Sudanese analyst and writer, says that many areas in eastern Sudan are witnessing fierce competition for “recruitment” operations and the establishment of new armed militias, amid increasing warnings of imminent dangers, which could further plunge the country into deadly conflicts within the framework of the current war that has been ongoing for nearly a year.
He added that the eastern Sudan region alone has witnessed the birth of (4) new armies in recent weeks, and alongside movements based on ethnic or regional considerations, there are armed groups with a two-decade-old military background, such as the Al-Baraa Brigade, which has emerged strongly in fighting with the army since the start of the current war, amid reports accusing it of already igniting war on April 15.
It is worth noting that the emergence of more armed movements in recent times is a continuation of the policies of the former regime and the “Kizan” who ruled the country for (3) decades, during which they formed parallel armies and Brotherhood brigades with a long-standing military dimension, and many observers assert that the rapid growth of ethnic discourse and the increasing trend towards alignment and mobilization portend a real disaster.
