Power Balance Shifts: American Atacms Missiles Open New Avenues for Ukraine Against Russia

In a move that could change the course of the ongoing war, the United States secretly shipped the long-range missile system “Atacms” to Ukraine a few days ago. These missiles, capable of targeting areas inside Russia, may represent a shift in Kiev’s military capabilities and pose new challenges to Russian defenses.

American Shift and Potential Impact

Military analysts believe that the United States sending “Atacms” missiles to Ukraine could bring about a fundamental shift in the balance of power in the ongoing conflict with Russia. These missiles, distinguished by their ability to reach targets at long distances, open the door for Kiev to launch precise and effective strikes against strategic locations inside Russian territory, potentially altering the dynamics of the current war.

“Atacms” missiles are tactical ballistic weapons capable of striking distant ground targets located beyond the range of traditional weapons, giving Ukraine a strategic advantage in the war.

Additionally, these missiles pose a challenge to Russian missile defenses, forcing them to deal with a new threat equipped with advanced technological capabilities, testing the effectiveness of these defenses in real-time.

Biden’s “Direct” Decision

According to reports from the New York Times, U.S. President Joe Biden made a secret decision to send a shipment of over 100 long-range “Atacms” missiles in February, along with a set of cluster munitions.

These missiles were included in an unannounced manner as part of a $300 million U.S. aid package, which has already been delivered to Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces, in turn, have not hesitated to use these missiles to attack Russian forces, demonstrating their ability to respond quickly and deploy these new weapons in military operations.

Expected Benefits for Ukraine

General Mohamed Abdelwahid, a strategic expert, said that introducing “Atacms” missiles into the Ukrainian conflict represents a potential turning point.

He added that these missiles not only provide Ukraine with the ability to strike long-range targets but also enhance its deterrent capability. It is expected that their use will lead to a reassessment of Russian strategies and may open the door to new negotiations.

Abdelwahid emphasized that the American decision to arm Ukraine with modern missiles like the Atacms indicates a clear intent from Washington and its allies to escalate, confirming that modern ballistic missiles could clearly change dynamics on the ground, forcing Russia to alter its strategies.

A New Pressure Card

In the same context, political science professor Dr. Tarek Fahmy stated that providing Ukraine with modern weapons reflects a shift in the American stance and its response to Russian advances on the ground, and reflects a qualitative change in Western military support for Ukraine.

Fahmy added: This change is expected to result in modifications in Russian military plans and may contribute to accelerating the search for diplomatic solutions. The ability to target vital Russian infrastructure gives Ukraine a new pressure card that could make a difference in the course of future negotiations.
