In Anticipation of a Potential Attack on Iran: U.S. Military Reinforcements to the Middle East
In a notable escalation of regional tensions, reports have revealed significant U.S. military movements in anticipation of possible strikes on Iran, alongside simultaneous diplomatic efforts.
According to Axios, the U.S. military is sending additional defensive and offensive reinforcements to the region in preparation for any order from President Donald Trump to strike Iran.
The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group are heading to the Middle East from the South China Sea.
The arrival of additional air defense systems, fighter jets, and possibly submarines is also expected, according to the same source.
So far, the U.S. military has neither officially confirmed nor denied these reports.
While Washington has shown reluctance to take direct military action against Iran, the White House confirmed Thursday that “all options remain on the table for President” Trump.
Since the beginning of the protest movement in Iran on December 28, Trump threatened military intervention but said Wednesday that he had been informed “by a reliable source” that “the killing has stopped” there, adding: “We will monitor the situation and see how things unfold.”
Meanwhile, the head of the Israeli Mossad arrived in the United States on a surprise visit to assess developments in Iran.
Mediation Proposal
These developments come as Russian President Vladimir Putin has also engaged, offering mediation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran.
According to the Kremlin, Putin held a phone call on Friday with Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Bezhikian, in efforts to reduce tensions.
In a statement, the Russian presidency said that Putin and Netanyahu discussed the situation in the Middle East and Iran during the call.
The Kremlin added that Putin offered Russia’s assistance in mediating regarding Iran and emphasized the importance of “intensifying political and diplomatic efforts to ensure stability and security in the region.”
Putin also “presented approaches to Netanyahu to strengthen stability in the Middle East and discussed activating diplomatic measures to stabilize the region.”
The statement continued: “Putin confirmed Russia’s readiness to mediate and presented Netanyahu with approaches to ensure security in the Middle East.”
The two sides agreed to continue dialogue on regional stability, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining communication at all levels.
On the same day, the Kremlin stated that Putin also held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Bezhikian.
During a press briefing, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Putin would continue his efforts to calm the situation in the region.
