At least one person died when the Dubrovnik Hotel, which was undergoing unauthorized renovations, collapsed in the middle of the night.
Emergency officials reported that up to nine people remain missing. Local authorities indicated that some of the missing individuals were working on-site.
The Security Minister of Buenos Aires Province, where the hotel is located, Javier Alonso, announced: “The hotel exploded and collapsed, with the top three floors tilting and crushing 25 percent of the adjacent building.”

The hotel, built in 1986, was undergoing renovations that, according to the municipality, were carried out “in secret, without adhering to municipal regulations,” and had been halted by authorities last August.
