Investigation Targets “Armani” and “Dior” Over “Forced” Labor Conditions
The Italian Competition Authority has opened an investigation targeting the luxury goods group “Giorgio Armani” and the Italian branch of “Dior”, suspected of neglecting the working conditions of their subcontractors.
The Competition Authority indicated that inspections were carried out on Tuesday with the support of the special antitrust unit and the Italian financial police, at the headquarters of “Giorgio Armani” and “Dior Italy”.
According to the “Agence France-Presse”, it noted that “the two companies focused on quality and craftsmanship”, adding that “to produce certain goods and accessories, it is suspected that they used workshops and factories employing people with unfair wages”.

It added that “these employees work longer hours than the legally permitted maximum and under inadequate health and safety conditions, contrary to the manufacturing excellence standards that both companies boast of”.
The Italian Competition Authority is also investigating potential violations of the consumer code related to how some companies of the “Armani” and “Dior” groups promote and sell their products.

The “Armani” group stated in a press release that “the concerned companies are fully cooperating with the authorities”, considering that “the allegations are unfounded” and that “the investigation will result in a positive outcome”.
