This conclusion was reached through initial investigations. Payne passed away after falling from the balcony of the “CasaSur Palermo” hotel in the upscale Palermo district of the Argentine capital.
The investigations, launched immediately following the incident, revealed the involvement of three people in his death, who have been charged with “abandonment leading to death” and drug trafficking.

The Argentine Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the crimes these individuals are accused of carry a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors stated that the suspects include a hotel employee who was present at the scene of the incident.
According to the investigation, traces of alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants were found in Liam Payne‘s body, reinforcing the hypothesis of a “psychotic episode” triggered by drug use. No specific charges have been filed against the suspects yet, but they are under investigation following the search of nine properties related to the case.

Some press reports have disclosed that one of the suspects was seen with Liam Payne at the hotel before the incident and was questioned on suspicion of “abandonment.”
Investigators also reviewed more than 800 hours of security footage from inside and outside the hotel to document the incident and conducted interviews with hotel staff, Payne’s friends, and family.
Upon being informed of the incident, Liam‘s father, Geoff Payne, traveled to Argentina, where he spent about three weeks before being able to repatriate his son’s body. As of Wednesday, Liam‘s body was cleared for return to the United Kingdom, where a funeral is expected to take place in his hometown of Wolverhampton.
