Iran intensifies its attacks in the Gulf
The United Arab Emirates announced that four people were injured as a result of a fire that broke out in a house in the emirate of Dubai, caused by the fall of shrapnel from an aerial interception. Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti oil tanker off the coast of Dubai was attacked by a drone.
The UAE stated early Tuesday that four people were injured after a fire broke out in a house in Dubai following the fall of shrapnel from an air defense interception. A Kuwaiti oil tanker off the coast of Dubai was also targeted by a drone, causing a fire and material damage on board.
This comes as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were subjected to several missile and drone attacks since dawn, and warning sirens sounded in Bahrain to alert of a potential attack, as the Israeli-American war on Iran enters its 32nd day.
The Dubai Media Office said in a statement that the competent authorities dealt with a fire that broke out in an abandoned house in the Al Badaa area as a result of shrapnel from an air defense interception. It added that four minor injuries were recorded among people who were near the house.
In a second attack, the office announced that firefighting teams were working to extinguish a fire that broke out on a Kuwaiti oil tanker in Dubai waters after it was targeted by a drone. It confirmed that the safety of all 24 crew members was secured, with no injuries reported.
About two hours after the first announcement of the attack, the office said in an update that firefighters had succeeded in extinguishing the fire aboard the Kuwaiti tanker.
In a later statement, the office said that specialized teams successfully handled the incident involving the Kuwaiti oil tanker in Dubai waters, with no oil spill recorded and no injuries reported.
For its part, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said in a statement that one of its tankers was subjected to an Iranian attack while at the Port of Dubai, resulting in a fire and material damage.
It noted that the tanker was fully loaded at the time of the incident, warning of the possibility of an oil spill in the surrounding waters.
Coinciding with news of the attack, oil futures rose by more than 3 percent on the New York Mercantile Exchange, trading at $106.05 per barrel at 23:37 on Monday (GMT).
Brent crude rose by 2.57 percent to trade at $115.35 per barrel at 23:06 on Monday (GMT).
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced the interception and destruction of ten drones and eight ballistic missiles launched toward the Kingdom since dawn on Tuesday.
It clarified that seven of the missiles targeted the Riyadh region, while the eighth targeted the Eastern Province, without providing further details about the drones, stating only that they were destroyed “in recent hours.”
The Saudi Civil Defense said in a statement that limited material damage was recorded to six homes in Al Kharj Governorate, part of the Riyadh region, due to falling debris from a drone interception, confirming that there were no casualties.
This was preceded by an announcement from the Saudi Civil Defense that warning sirens had been activated three times, twice in Al Kharj Governorate and once in the Eastern Province.
The Kuwaiti army also announced that air defenses had repelled hostile missile and drone attacks, explaining that the sounds of explosions heard were the result of interception operations by air defense systems.
The Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced the activation of warning sirens across the country and called on citizens and residents to proceed immediately to the nearest safe place, without providing further details. The activation of warning sirens is usually associated with the detection of attacks.
Since February 28, Gulf countries have been subjected to Iranian missile and drone attacks that have resulted in deaths and injuries and caused damage to civilian facilities, including airports, ports, and buildings. These countries have condemned the attacks and repeatedly called for them to stop.
Tehran says these attacks target “American bases and interests” in the region, in response to the “Israeli-American attack” that killed hundreds of people, including the former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and security officials.
