Iran: UN investigator has not the authority to give remark about the Ukrainian plane crash
On Thursday, Iranian media stated that Iran refused as immature a statement by a UN investigator that contradictions in its clarification about the shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane last year asked many questions if the the act was intentional.
It should indicate that all 176 people in the Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752, which most of them were Canadian, were murdered as the plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the destination to Kiev on Jan. 8, 2020.
On her part, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Agnes Callamard, declared on Tuesday that she had found no concrete proof the plane was targeted intentionally but that Iran had not proven that the act was accidental.
Indeed, Iran’s Guards and after rejecting accusation for three days, said that they had shot down the plane by mistake when they are in high alert for a possible assault. Before the accident, Iran attacked US targets in Iraq in vengeance for Washington’s murder of Iran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, with a drone assault five days before.
Moreover, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that Callamard’s sphere of activity has nothing to do with these regulations and frameworks. Rather, her unwarranted involvement might not have a constructive impact on the legal procedures as well.
Otherwise, Callamard, who realized a six-month search about the case under her global directive, stated on Tuesday that Iran had not replied to her detailed queries. Whereas, officials said that she is stepping down from the independent post at the end of March, a year early in the six-year term, to take another job. While, Khatibzadeh accused her of rushing out her statement.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA cited what he said: Maybe one of the reasons of this unwarranted haste is her resignation from her post as special rapporteur, and by issuing an immature and impetuous text…she may have been promised a new job positions. Accordingly, some charges have been leveled against the Islamic Republic of Iran without any valid evidence and documents.
It should note that in December, Khatibzadeh stated an accusation list would be delivered in less than a month against those whose negligence caused the accident. However, Iran’s military court that is charging the case has yet to publicly declare it.
