Iraqi Elections: High turnout during the “special vote”
Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major-General Yahya Rasoul, confirmed on Friday that the special voting process is proceeding smoothly and smoothly, while noting that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is following up on the process.
“There is a large turnout at the polling stations by members of the security services to cast their votes at the election wedding,” Rasoul told the Iraqi News Agency.
He added, “The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Moustafa Al-Kazimi, is directly following the special voting process.” He noted, “There are operations rooms in the Joint Operations Command and Baghdad Operations Command, and the Prime Minister is directly informed of the most accurate details.”
Special polling stations for the elections in various Iraqi cities opened on Friday for eligible voters. Security forces from various branches, with the exception of the Popular Mobilization Forces, are participating in the special voting, 48 hours before the beginning of the general voting next Sunday.
Prison inmates and displaced people are also taking part in voting to choose a new parliament after the previous one was dissolved on October 7th.
“The special voting will be held on Friday, where the ballot boxes will be opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 6 p.m. electronically, which will include the armed forces and the security services, who number 1,750,727, and 595 polling centers with 2,584 stations opened for them,” Joumana al-Ghallay, spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, told Sky News Arabia.
The 120,126 internally displaced persons cast their ballots in 86 polling stations, with 309 stations.
She added: “In addition, the 671 prisoners sentenced to less than five years in prison are participating, and six voting stations have been allocated for them.”
She explained: “All these polling centers and stations will be located near voters who are included in special voting, whether near military units and barracks or near displaced voters in the camps, which will be spread all over Iraq’’.
