James Webb Telescope captures 19 intricate galactic structures with stunning details

NASA has unveiled recent images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope of 19 distant galaxies, providing detailed and vibrant views of spiral galaxies.

These images, part of the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS (PHANGS) program, reveal the structures of gas and dust within the galaxies, offering a penetrating insight into star formation processes. The pictures depict glowing dust lanes, stars in the process of formation shrouded in blankets of gas and dust, and voids within the gas and dust lanes, possibly formed as a result of star explosions.

The James Webb Space Telescope also captured dynamically alive spiral arms, shedding light on how galaxies grow from the inside out. Additionally, some galaxies exhibit bursts of radiation, indicating the presence of supermassive active black holes or bright star clusters, contributing to a better understanding of star formation and galaxy evolution.
