Johnny Depp will donate Amber Heard’s money

Amber Heard will pay Johnny Depp $1 million in damages, one year after the defamation case.

Both parties appealed after the June 1, 2022 verdict, but dropped their appeal and reached an agreement in December. A source close to Johnny Depp said the actor would split the money between five different charities. They are Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society and Amazonia Fund Allowance.

The vilification I have faced on social media is a magnified version of how women are revictimized when they file complaints,” Heard wrote. According to Heard, this settlement gave her the opportunity to emancipate herself from something she tried to leave behind more than six years ago. She added that “I have not made any admission” and that “there are no restrictions or gag orders on my voice in the future”. “I cannot afford to risk an impossible bill, which is not only financial, but also psychological, physical and emotional. Women should not face abuse or bankruptcy for speaking their truth, but unfortunately this is not the case,’ she added. Depp’s legal team has spoken out on the agreement reached in December 2022. They insist that “the payment, which Depp will donate to charity, reinforces the conclusion that the justice system is pursuing justice.”
