Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood suspends municipal elections

In Jordan, the Muslim Brotherhood party announced the suspension of its participation in the 2022 elections to the Municipal Councils, the Amman Secretariat, because of what he considered to be an accumulation of negative practices on the part of the authorities and the continuation of his approach of exclusion, hardening and political targeting, which undermined the environment conducive to political participation; this has exacerbated the “general disappointment and humiliation of the collective presence of the Jordanian people, including the party’s foundations”.

In a statement released today at the end of a meeting of its Executive Board, the Islamic Labour Front affirmed that practices in the local arena recall the climate leading up to the 2007 and 2020 elections, which has witnessed a blatant manipulation of the will of the people through engineering and falsification of election results, which has made it a burden on the system, the state and society, and exacerbated popular unrest and loss of confidence in state institutions.

The party expressed its hope that the official authorities will not adhere to their current approach towards political forces, that they will be consistent with the‏ demands for reform, ‏‏which the majority of the political forces in the country have agreed upon, and that obstacles will be removed and the atmosphere conducive to political participation will be ‏ in the ‏ ‏stages.
