In a new act of violation, the military intelligence affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces arrested journalist Sadiq Dalai in the city of Damazine, Blue Nile Province, yesterday, Monday.

The Sudanese Journalists Union strongly condemns Dalai’s arrest and holds the military intelligence responsible for his security and well-being, demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

The union also warns the parties to the armed conflict in Sudan of the grave consequences of persisting in violating the rights of journalists, both men and women, and targeting them, and of using arrest as a means to silence, intimidate, and terrorize journalists.

In conclusion, the Sudanese Journalists Union emphasizes that the situation of press freedom, media freedom, and freedom of expression in the country continues to deteriorate. Since the start of the war in Sudan on April 15 last year, the union has recorded an increase in violations at various levels against journalists, men and women. Forty journalists, including five women, have been arrested, detained, and arrested by the parties to the armed conflict in Sudan.
