The military intelligence services affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces arrested journalist Sadiq Dalai in the city of Damazine in the Blue Nile province yesterday, Monday.

The Sudanese Journalists Union stated in a statement on Tuesday that it condemns Dalai’s arrest.

The union stressed that the military intelligence services affiliated with the army are responsible for his security and safety, and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

The union warned the parties to the armed conflict in Sudan of the danger of persisting in violating the rights of journalists, both men and women, and targeting them, and using arrest as a means to silence, intimidate, and terrorize journalists.

The Sudanese Journalists Union confirmed the deterioration of press freedom, media freedom, and freedom of expression in the country.

Since the start of the war on April 15 last year, the union has noted an increase in violations at various levels against journalists.

Since the start of the conflict, according to the union, (39) journalists have been arrested, detained, and arrested, including (5) women journalists, by the parties to the armed conflict in Sudan.
