Morocco-Israel: Celebration of the 1st Anniversary of ties reestablishment in US
With a strong diplomatic presence, the Moroccan and Israeli embassies in the United States celebrated the first anniversary of the resumption of relations between the two countries.
“On December 10 last year, former US President Donald Trump announced the restoration of Moroccan-Israeli relations”.
“On December 22 of the same year, a tripartite agreement was signed between Morocco, Israel and the United States, to restore full diplomatic relations with the two countries”.
The Embassies of Morocco and Israel in the United States organized a ceremony attended by officials of the United States Department of State, members of Congress and representatives of Jewish organizations.
The ceremony was attended by Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog and Moroccan Ambassador Princess Lalla Joumala Alaoui.
New chapter
“A new chapter in special relations that goes much deeper than geopolitical interests”, said Israeli Ambassador Mike Herzog, describing the return of Moroccan-Israeli relations a year ago.
Herzog stressed that the tripartite agreement signed between Morocco, Israel and the United States is not just one in a series of Israeli-Arab agreements. “There are two camps in the region, one that seeks progress, enlightenment and stability, and the other is a radical camp that is distinguished by extremist ideologies that want to drag our region into the dark past based on hatred and violence”, he expressed.
He stressed that Morocco and Israel are in the first camp seeking progress, enlightenment and stability.
He stressed that the two countries can promote their common vision of a secure, prosperous and stable region through strong relations between Jews and Muslims to make a significant contribution in this regard.
Natural evolution
In a speech, Princess Lalla Joumala, Morocco’s ambassador of United States, said that the resumption of Moroccan-Israeli relations is a natural development for a long-term, multi-faceted and rich relationship.
She pointed out that a year ago, under the supervision of Moroccan King Mohammed VI, “a bold step was taken to restore diplomatic relations with Israel and to open a new chapter in our bilateral relations”.
“The seeds of peace planted during the past year have begun to bear fruit, which has positively affected the lives of the peoples of the region”, she said. “It is difficult not to be optimistic about the future when we look at the enthusiasm and the great momentum generated by the tripartite agreement and Abraham agreements since 2020”.
