“Mysterious” Seats on an American Beach Spark Speculation about their Origin

A person discovered “mysterious” seats on the Jersey Shore beach in the United States, leading to online speculation about their origin.

The American newspaper “New York Post” reported that Matthew Jacob was walking along the beach last week when he found connected metal seats, believed to be from a lost or forgotten plane.

Jacob, in a video posted on his TikTok account on Sunday afternoon, said, “I think I just found seats from an airplane washed ashore on the Jersey beach.” The video garnered about a million and a half likes.

He mentioned, “I wasn’t sure what I saw… I initially thought it was a tree branch, and as I got closer, I realized I was looking at seats.” Jacob continued, “The closer I got, the more they looked like airplane seats.”

Speculation quickly spread about the source of the seats on social media, with one person saying, “I was on TWA Flight 800, and I remember sitting there,” referring to the fatal incident that occurred in 1996 off the coast of Long Island. Another suggested, “I’m sure these seats belong to a 2011 Kia Soul.”

However, the Margate Police Chief, Matthew Hankinson, provided a more logical explanation in a press statement.

He explained, “The seats are much heavier than anything that would come from, say, an airplane… One of the investigators did more research and suggested that it is related to railway car seats, which are typically decommissioned, stripped of metal parts, and taken out to be seen and thrown to help build artificial coral reefs.”

He mentioned that “recent storms may have freed the seats from the coral reefs.”
