Playing with the Fire of Division: The Muslim Brotherhood’s Plan in Tunisia’s Migrant Crisis

The Tunisian Muslim Brotherhood Plans to Exploit the Migrant Crisis in the Country

In recent times, the Tunisian people have condemned the terrorist group, the Muslim Brotherhood, which sought to hijack the identity of the Tunisian people during a dark decade of their rule. However, the Tunisian president, Kais Saied, put an end to their terrorist reign after two years in power.

President Kais Saied has sent several messages to all political parties, warning the Ennahdha Party and its allied parliamentary blocs, accusing them of attempting to destabilize and impoverish Tunisia, as well as dividing and exploiting its people.

How does the terrorist group seek to spread violence and exacerbate crises?

The Muslim Brotherhood seeks to spread violence and exacerbate crises in order to weaken the Tunisian presidency in the eyes of the people. Recently, they ignited crises in the coastal city of Sfax, taking advantage of the opportunity to increase the number of migrants in Tunisia.

President Kais Saied publicly exposed and denounced the Muslim Brotherhood, apprehending their leaders, starting with Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of the group in Tunisia, and other members.

In addition to the escalating economic crisis, the Tunisian government faces a range of political challenges, including the issue of irregular migration, which has significantly worsened in recent times. Tunisia has become a major transit country for migrants attempting to reach Italy via illegal migration routes.

Africans also seek to come to Tunisia to begin their migration journey to Europe. President Kais Saied responded by stating that irregular migrants in Tunisia are treated with humanity, in line with Tunisian values, contrary to the false narratives propagated by colonial circles and their agents, who serve their interests at the expense of others.

The city of Sfax, in southeastern Tunisia, is witnessing deadly clashes between local residents and African migrants, resulting in the death of a Tunisian citizen. In this context, there have been inciting calls from Muslim Brotherhood circles against migrants in the coastal city, particularly after the funeral of the deceased. Civil organizations and non-governmental organizations have called on the authorities to calm the situation and ensure the security of both migrants and Tunisians.

President Kais Saied emphasized that the state cannot be governed based on the lies spread through social media platforms, which many have used as tools to destabilize stability and sow division. He referred specifically to the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates.

He affirmed that those who believe they can disrupt state institutions by spreading fake news are mistaken. The Tunisian state cannot be swayed by fabricated images captured in other countries or by the false news disseminated by some websites, both domestically and internationally. History will separate fact from fiction, and the Tunisian people have made their decision and will not step back.

Tightening the Noose on the Muslim Brotherhood

Tarek Al-Bashbishi, an Islamic affairs researcher, says that it is expected for the Muslim Brotherhood to spread rumors and sow division in order to achieve their goals. As days go by, the grip on the organization’s cadres and leadership tightens more and more.

He added that many countries that previously accepted their presence now consider them a burden. During times of organizational expansion, they exploit distractions and seek new safe havens in anticipation of being expelled from their current locations. They reignite the flames of division and spread rumors once again.

He clarified that the role of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood has ended or is on its way to an end.
