Popular uprising, ‘Tehran’s youth’ calls for mass mobilization in front of the capital’s universities on the first of October
Continuing the popular uprising against the Iranian regime, a group of young people in Tehran’s neighborhoods, in their fourth statement, called on citizens to gather in front of major universities in Tehran on Saturday, October 1st, in conjunction with marches in many cities around the world on the same day.
On Thursday, September 29, these young people wrote in their statement: “The presence of heroic Tehran students in the protests has caused fear of the repressive authorities, and the closure of all universities in Tehran in the last week of September is proof of that.”
“The people’s presence and support for these young people is the responsibility of the people of Tehran,” the statement said.
The statement asked all citizens in Tehran, especially young people, to gather in front of the nearest university to their place of residence from 14:00 on Saturday. If oppressive forces are present, they should be present in the adjacent side streets.
Young people in Tehran neighborhoods have proposed the following universities to organize protest rallies in front of them: University of Tehran, Polytechnic University, Sharif University, Arts University, Faculty of Social Sciences of Alama Tabatabaei University, University of Science and Industry, University of Khawaja Naseer, University of Azad Tehran and University of Science and Research.
Meanwhile, Farshkard (a political group opposed to the Iranian regime, which started work on September 17, 2018 with the aim of toppling the regime) wrote today, Thursday, September 29, in a statement addressed to workers in the market and transportation sector: “After the broad and continuous waves of the revolution nationwide, the feeling is that the revolutionary protests should be linked to the strikes more than ever before.”
While welcoming the strike in the academic and labor sectors, the organization stressed that “what could put more pressure on the system is a strike in the market and the transport sector”.
Referring to the experience of truckers’ strikes in 2018, Farshkard added, “This strike showed the strong ability of workers to disrupt the operations required by the system.”
“We suggest that you transport and market workers think about the possibility of the collapse of the Islamic Republic’s regime, the emergence of a national government and the improvement of your situation,” Farshkard wrote. “On the way to this possibility, hurry and help the young people who carry their lives on their palms in the streets to push forward the Iranian National Revolution.”
At the same time, more than 200 university professors across Iran issued a statement protesting the bloodshed of innocent people and the Iranian people’s entry into mourning, announcing that if the detained students are not released, tension and anxiety in the atmosphere of the universities will continue.
The professors who signed the statement warned that if the arrested students are not released, “the universities will not return to their normal atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, according to a photograph posted on social media, regime supporters are planning a rally on Thursday, and also after Friday prayers, in front of the home of former National Football Team player Ali Karimi in Lawasan district, because of Karimi’s strong support for Iran’s national uprising.
