Referendum-25 July: 1,700 cyber-attacks detected and seven people interrogated
Tunisian President Kais Saied commented on Tuesday on attempts to hack the website related to the referendum, which is expected to be held on July 25.
Saied made the remarks during a meeting at the Carthage Palace with Interior Minister Taoufik Charfeddine to discuss the general situation in the country.
The statement of the Tunisian presidency stated: “The President of the Republic reiterated the need to respect the law and the neutrality of all public services, and commended the efforts of the Ministry of the Interior in preparation for the historic date of July 25”.
He added: “We have also been exposed to the hacks of the website on voter and voter registration and the change of polling stations that were revealed in recent days in a desperate attempt, such as those that took place during the national consultation to create chaos and confusion on the day of the referendum”.
A judicial investigation was opened with the permission of the public prosecutor.
So far, 1,700 cyberattacks or hacks have been discovered, the statement said, adding that up to 7 people have been heard by the relevant security authorities while waiting for anyone to be identified.
