Reform without the Muslim Brotherhood: A Tunisian Politician Outlines the Path to Unity

He calls for a dialogue with all Tunisians, except for the Muslim Brotherhood, who committed atrocities during their years in power, and outlines a roadmap toward unity and stability.
Souhail Nemri, president of the Citizens Advocates of the Nation movement in Tunisia, addressed key national issues, including his call for a national dialogue, as well as current threats and challenges.
He stated that he advocates for « an open dialogue with all Tunisians, political figures, organizations, and associations, except those involved in corruption and social destabilization, » referring to the Islamist Ennahdha movement and its allies.
He added that his movement has initiated consultations with national figures, political parties, and organizations.
Nemri specified that « a letter will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Tunisian Presidency to develop a working document that structures the idea of dialogue and defines the content of the social reforms needed to save the country. »
Without the Muslim Brotherhood
Nemri emphasized that Citizens Advocates of the Nation is firmly committed to the path of reform while breaking away from outdated systems, referring to the Muslim Brotherhood.
He explained that « the proposed national dialogue will be overseen by the executive authority and the Prime Minister’s Office, ensuring clear objectives and effective results in alignment with the repeated calls of the President for a strong national unity based on responsibility and commitment. »
He added: « What the President of the Republic has stated about the need to build a solid national unity must be translated into a comprehensive national project that unites Tunisians, regardless of their political and social affiliations. »
However, he excluded from this initiative « those who have committed crimes, betrayed the nation, and have been proven to have undermined the country’s security and the people’s interests. They have no place among us, and it is up to the judiciary alone to hold them accountable. »
Tunisian President Kais Saied had previously stated: « We will overcome numerous challenges against all forms of threats in the face of today’s unprecedented and rapidly evolving global situation. A solid national unity will be the shield that breaks all desperate attempts to destabilize the country. »
Warnings against Foreign Pressures
In the same interview, the president of Citizens Advocates of the Nation warned that Tunisia is facing smear campaigns and external pressures due to its firm and independent stance on national sovereignty.
Countering Division
He expressed his « total rejection of any foreign interference in Tunisia’s affairs, » stressing that the country’s national decisions must stem solely from the will of the Tunisian people, in service of their supreme interests and stability.
He asserted that the top priority is to strengthen the internal front and block any attempt to sow discord and weaken the unity of the Tunisian people.
« This unity requires awareness, courage, and boldness in decision-making, as well as setting aside narrow interests in favor of the country’s greater good, » he added.
He also urged Tunisians to « remain fully vigilant against attempts to incite chaos and social unrest, which may arise from both within and outside the country. »
Recently, Tunisian authorities have heightened their security alertness to counter any Brotherhood-led attempts to disrupt public order and threaten national security.
