Right-wing and left-wing in Iran talking about economic failure of Ebrahim Raisi

The inability of President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration has become the main article in the press for the reformists in Iran, where the reports continue revealing the extent of the tragedy of inflation and the collapse of the economy in Iran.

The reformist press in Iran believes that the hard-line president Raisi cannot have any political excuses, especially since all power is concentrated in the hands of the conservative camp loyal to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In an article published in the reformist daily Etemad , economic columnist Albert Pogosian reminded readers that during the 2017 presidential campaign when Raisi and Hassan Rohani were the main candidates, Raisi proposed a discussion with Rouhani to put an end to blaming former governments for current problems.

The writer said that it seems that Raisi wanted to defend the performance of the ultra-conservative President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who preceded Rohani, and prevented the current president from blaming Ahmadinejad for shortcomings during his first term (2013-2017).

However, Raisi still blames his predecessor, Rohani, for Iran’s ongoing economic problems, Pogosian noted. The writer stressed that the economic collapse in Iran is due to the country’s lack of a growth model and a sustainable development plan.

With such a plan, the arrival and departure of different governments will not significantly affect the country’s growth, and successive governments will not act differently from each other, he added.

The article also noted that Raisi’s administration has yet to present a strategic plan, nine months after taking office.

According to the English-language newspaper Iran International, Iran’s economic collapse has reached its worst point, explaining that the price of one kilogram of rice was 300,000 riyals (equivalent to $1.20) at the beginning of Raisi’s term, but is now 1100,000 riyals (equivalent to $4.40).

The price of one kilogram of meat rose from 1,300,000 riyals to 2 million riyals ($8). The cheapest Iranian-made Braid, an unsafe integrated model, was also sold in the 1990s, as opposed to 1,400,000,000 riyals when my boss took office in August 2021. It now costs more than 2,100,000,000 riyals ($8,400).

According to Pogosian, this trend in prices shows that Raisi was unable to harness rising inflation and was also unable to present a development plan, which worsened the economic situation.

Iran International points to the diplomatic deadlock in resolving Iran’s nuclear and other disputes with the United States, and the serious impact of U.S. sanctions on the deepening economic crisis.

In an article published in the conservative daily Islamic republic, Ghulam Reza Bani Asadi said that Raisi did not follow the teachings of the Shiite imams in the administration of state affairs, asking: How can those who constantly create problems for the people and cause anxiety in their daily lives prove that they are followers of the first Imam Ali of the Shia sect?, he thought.

He asked Bani Asadi, without naming a president, and then accused officials today of boasting about their plans before their election and blaming previous governments for the people’s livelihood problems.

The writer Islamic Republic added: Of course, previous governments are partly responsible for the problems, but all the ways are left open for you to address the problems. What happened to all these claims of defeat of world powers?

The writer addressed Raisi, saying: You are still worrying people and the labor force even worse than the previous government. Is that how you wanted to amaze the whole world with your performance?.

The writer pointed out that the outcome of the government’s inability to solve the country’s economic problems can be seen on social media, where one can see the extent of Iranians’ weak belief in God, pointing out that while people are looking for transparency and honesty, you are simply trying to restrict their access to social media.
