Russia and Ukraine… mutual strikes and a revised peace plan
Russian authorities announced the suspension of flights at four airports in the south of the country due to concerns over potential drone attacks.
The affected airports are Vladikavkaz, Grozny, Magas, and the military airport of Mozdok.
Leaders of three Russian regions — Voronezh, North Ossetia, and Kabardino-Balkaria — warned residents to stay away from windows and take shelter inside their homes, noting that disruptions to phone and internet services were possible.
Russian strikes
In the same context, the city of Sumy in northern Ukraine was hit by a Russian drone attack that caused a power outage and injured at least seven people. The regional governor, Oleh Hryhorov, confirmed that the strikes targeted critical infrastructure and that emergency teams were working to restore electricity once the city was secured.
Revised peace plan
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kyiv would present a revised peace plan to the United States today, following talks held in London with the leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The plan comprises twenty key points, while discussions continue over the territories Moscow is demanding. Zelensky asserted that Ukraine would not relinquish any part of its land, emphasizing the importance of respecting Ukrainian sovereignty and achieving lasting peace, according to European officials and the NATO Secretary General.
The escalating use of drones by both sides reflects a shift in the war towards targeting vital infrastructure, especially with winter approaching. At the same time, international pressure for diplomatic solutions continues, but the differing interests of Ukraine and Russia suggest that peace negotiations will remain complex and protracted.
