“See and Hear”: Smart Glasses Help the Hearing-Impaired Avoid Embarrassment

In a groundbreaking innovation, smart glasses with a built-in earpiece have been unveiled, offering an ideal solution for people with hearing impairments who feel uncomfortable wearing traditional hearing aids.

These new glasses provide a stylish and comfortable alternative to hearing aids, as they do not require any components to be inserted into the ear. This reduces discomfort and helps protect against ear infections.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.25 billion people worldwide suffer from mild to moderate hearing loss. Although attitudes toward hearing aids have improved, many people still feel embarrassed about using them.
A 2011 study found that some users felt that hearing aids made them “look disabled,” which led many to prefer concealing them.

The new solution comes from Nuance Audio, a brand under the renowned EssilorLuxottica eyewear group. These glasses, recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and certified by the European Union, feature advanced technology that captures sound from the direction the user is looking and amplifies it through built-in speakers in the frame, using air conduction technology.

The glasses weigh no more than standard eyewear and come in various frame styles and colors. Additionally, they can be fitted with prescription lenses or photochromic lenses. They also come with a wireless charger, a protective case, and a remote control to adjust the volume.

Experts clarify that these glasses are not designed for listening to music or podcasts but rather to filter essential sounds in noisy environments, such as following a conversation in a crowded place.

With a price of around $1,100, this innovative technology offers a practical solution for everyday life.
