Simple Exercises Reduce Rates of Depression and Anxiety
Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University in England found that simple exercises reduce rates of depression and anxiety, according to the “Science Daily” website.
The scientists reached this conclusion after conducting a comprehensive review of studies conducted worldwide to examine the potential of physical activity in the field of mental health.
The researchers’ analysis of these studies showed that engaging in light physical activity, such as walking and golf, can reduce the risk of depression by 23% and anxiety by 26%.
Additionally, it emerged from the analysis of the studies that engaging in simple physical activity also helps reduce the risk of severe mental health conditions, in addition to decreasing symptoms of schizophrenia by 27%.
Lead researcher Lee Smith stated, “Low to moderate levels of physical activity can be beneficial for mental health, especially as they are achievable”.
