The battle is not over — Israeli Chief of Staff signals potential new confrontation with Iran

Is Israel planning to strike Iran again?

Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi responded to this question by stating that “Israel’s battle with Iran is not over yet.”
Speaking during a periodic strategic assessment meeting that covered all fronts and arenas, attended by members of the General Staff and the Operational Command, Halevi said: “Iran and its allies remain in our sights — the battle with Iran is ongoing.”

Previously declaring that 2025 would be a year of war, Halevi now stated that “2026 will be a year of readiness, reshaping reality, consolidating achievements, restoring efficiency, returning to fundamentals, and seizing operational opportunities.”

He described the war in the Gaza Strip as “one of the most complex battles the Israeli army has ever fought.”

He added: “We have made significant achievements. The Southern Command continues to supervise operations through active and reserve brigades, carrying out daily offensive and defensive actions. We are paying a heavy price in this conflict – as evidenced today by the announcement of the deaths of two soldiers in southern Gaza within 24 hours. We will continue working toward our objectives: bringing back the hostages and toppling Hamas.”

Halevi stressed that the Israeli army must remain prepared for an all-out, prolonged conflict while facing a complex and multi-dimensional reality that requires engagement on multiple fronts.

He noted that the army operates in several arenas simultaneously while maintaining active defense on these fronts and along the borders. He added: “We will continue to maintain air superiority and intelligence efforts.”

The Chief of Staff said: “Our operations across multiple fronts are ongoing. We will continue to weaken Syria and Hezbollah and deny them strategic capabilities in order to preserve our freedom of action. We are also operating continuously in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).”

According to the Israeli military, the meeting included “a presentation of the intelligence, operational, and strategic overview across all fronts — from neighboring countries to the depths of the Middle East — offering a comprehensive perspective on the region from Tehran to Gaza.”

“The Chief of Staff and the commanders reviewed the influential factors and shaping dynamics of the region, along with upcoming operational plans and a comprehensive analysis of expected challenges,” the statement concluded.
