The Best Foods to Boost Brain Health

Kirsten Brooks, a nutrition specialist, provided a set of tips on foods that can boost brain health, based on a study involving over 180,000 people, which demonstrated a strong connection between diet and brain health.

Speaking with “Nature” magazine, Brooks noted that individuals who follow a balanced diet enjoy better brain function and improved mental health.

Recent research confirms that diet plays a crucial role in brain health, showing that diets high in sugar, refined carbohydrates, ultra-processed foods, and low in fiber and protein can have negative effects on brain functions.

According to the British newspaper “Mirror,” studies indicate that high blood sugar levels, whether from diabetes or pre-diabetic conditions, increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, adopting a balanced diet focused on fiber-rich and healthy protein foods is essential for maintaining brain health and preventing associated risks.

To enhance brain health, Brooks recommends consuming the following foods:

  • Whole grains
  • Low-sugar fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Legumes
  • Proteins

She also emphasized the importance of a fiber-rich diet, recommending about 30 grams daily.

Brooks added that fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, and kimchi are also beneficial for gut health, which positively affects brain health.

The article also discusses the impact of menopause on brain health, where Dr. Donald Grant stressed the importance of incorporating foods like:

  • Fatty fish
  • Eggs
  • Leafy greens
  • Avocado

Brooks concluded that a balanced diet can help improve cognitive function and support overall brain health.
