The Houthis continue their attempts to starve the Yemeni people by holding food trucks in Aden
The Houthi militia has obstructed shipments of food and goods from Aden’s port and liberated areas to the Yemeni people, as part of its economic war against the people and an attempt to force traders to divert their trade and imports to Hodeidah port.
Houthi intransigence
Dozens of trucks carrying food, iron, timber and other goods are still blocked from crossing into Houthi-controlled areas and are stopped at militia checkpoints, Yemeni commercial sources said.
Middle East newspaper reported that the Houthi militia is intentionally starving the besieged population in the city of Taiz and other areas controlled by the militias. The Houthi actions have exacerbated the humanitarian misery of Yemenis by tightening the siege on Ta’izz and obstructing the arrival of trucks carrying food.
Cargo hold
The Houthi militia has been holding 180 trucks loaded with wheat flour for nearly a month in the al-Rahada area at the southern entrance to Taiz governorate, where the Houthis have set up a checkpoint to illegally levy taxes, extort merchants, and raise food prices.
According to Yemeni sources, preventing trucks from delivering food to militia-held areas is a war crime against humanity, stressing that the international community must intervene and put pressure on the Houthis to prevent them from using food as a weapon against the Yemeni people.
